A Clean Devotion: Trimurti College Volunteers at Mauli’s Holy Shrine

“At Mauli’s Doorstep, A Pilgrimage of Cleanliness”: Trimurti College’s Social Responsibility Initiative

Date: 22/07/2025  Location: Newasa

Shri Kshetra Nevasa, a sacred land blessed with the holy heritage of the Saint tradition, is renowned as the workplace of Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli and the birthplace of the revered Dnyaneshwari scripture. As is customary every year, on Ashadh Vadya Kamika Ekadashi, millions of devotees gathered here for a glimpse of Mauli. The immense crowd, while a testament to faith, unfortunately resulted in a significant accumulation of waste across the temple premises, cooking areas (pakashala), gardens, and surrounding vicinity. Recognizing this critical need for community well-being, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Department of Trimurti Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Nevasa, under the Trimurti Pawan Pratishthan, organized a dedicated cleanliness drive titled “Mauli’s Doorstep – A Pilgrimage of Cleanliness” (“माऊलीच्या दारी, स्वच्छताची वारी”).

The primary objectives of this initiative were multi-faceted: to maintain the sanctity and cleanliness of Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli’s holy abode, to raise awareness about cleanliness among the devotees, and to instill a strong sense of social responsibility and the dignity of labor among the students. The entire endeavor was purely voluntary and service-oriented, with cleanliness work being the central focus. Accumulated waste, including plastic, papers, food items, gutkha packets, and bottles, was systematically collected from the temple premises, cooking areas, Dnyaneshwar garden, and main roads, and appropriately transported to the waste disposal site. This initiative transcended mere manual labor, evolving into a beautiful confluence of social participation, environmental consciousness, and devotion.

A Collaborative Effort for a Sacred Cause

The “Mauli’s Doorstep – A Pilgrimage of Cleanliness” initiative was diligently executed on July 22, 2025, the day after Kamika Ekadashi. The main area of operation encompassed the Shri Dnyaneshwar Temple premises in Nevasa, along with adjacent areas and public spaces. This impactful program was meticulously organized by the NSS Department of Trimurti Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Nevasa, with invaluable cooperation from the Temple Committee.

The students received inspiring guidance from the college’s respected Principal Dr. R. Arasule Sir and Coordinator Dr. Gore Madam, which significantly boosted their enthusiasm and ensured the disciplined execution of the entire endeavor. The planning and implementation of this crucial initiative were led by the National Service Scheme Department, under the guidance of Program Officer Prof. Pranjal Thorat and Co-Program Officer Prof. Ashutosh Palhare. Their leadership ensured a smooth and effective operation.

A number of respected faculty members were also actively involved during the initiative, providing crucial support and motivation. These included Prof. Santosh Jawale, Prof. Mayuresh Aragade, Prof. Rahul Borude, Prof. Pravin Avare, Prof. Amruta Devkar, Prof. Sujata More, Prof. Nitin Chirmade, Prof. Akshay Devtarse, Prof. Sainath Bhavar, Prof. Yogita Gaikwad, Prof. Somnath Khedkar, Prof. Gorakh Gund, Prof. Sukalkar, Prof. Aniket Arasule, and Prof. Gangurde Babasaheb. Their guidance and active participation were instrumental in the successful organization of the initiative. A total of 60 dedicated student volunteers enthusiastically participated in this community service effort, demonstrating their commitment to social welfare.

The initiative commenced at 9 AM with an introductory session and guidance for the volunteers. They were provided with essential tools such as gloves, garbage bags, shovels, baskets, and brooms, and then divided into different teams, each assigned specific areas of responsibility. With great dedication, each team began their cleanliness work in their designated zones. The collected waste, which included various plastics, discarded papers, food remnants, gutkha packets, and bottles from the temple premises, was systematically gathered. Accumulations of dirt and debris under the trees in the garden were also meticulously cleaned. All collected waste was then properly transported to the designated waste disposal site.

This unique initiative embodied several distinctive features. The students worked with immense enthusiasm and a profound spirit of service. There was a visible sense of spiritual satisfaction among the participating students, as they had the honor of cleansing the holy land of the saints. The drive successfully raised awareness about cleanliness among the devotees, and the revitalized, clean surroundings enhanced their experience of visiting Mauli. The initiative truly brought the principle of “Cleanliness is Service” (स्वच्छता हीच सेवा) to life. Through this effort, the NSS Department of the college not only instilled a strong sense of social responsibility but also provided a significant local impetus to the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” (Clean India Mission).

The initiative received notable coverage in local newspapers and on social media, amplifying its message. Furthermore, posts featuring photographs of the event were published on the social media pages and website of Trimurti Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Nevasa, celebrating the students’ dedication.

Overall, the “Mauli’s Doorstep – A Pilgrimage of Cleanliness” initiative proved to be a powerful blend of social, environmental, and spiritual commitment. It transcended the mere act of keeping the surroundings clean, evolving into a transformative experience that instilled values of service, dignity of labor, and a sense of duty among the students. This endeavor was a sincere attempt to put the teachings of the saints into practical action.

The National Service Scheme Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the student volunteers who participated, the college administration, the Nagar Panchayat, the Temple Committee, the Police Administration, and the media representatives for their invaluable support. Such initiatives stand as a testament to how college education at Trimurti is becoming increasingly community-oriented and values-driven, truly shaping responsible citizens for the future.
